Weekday School Division...

History and Purpose

Begun as a service project for the community in 1966 by First Presbyterian Church of Athens, Georgia, the Weekday School provides a ministry to and with young children. Within a Christian atmosphere, the Weekday School strives to help preschool children develop spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically and mentally.

 

Operational Policies

 The Director of the Weekday School is seen as adjunct to the church staff, having direct access to and support from the Senior Pastor. The Senior Pastor exercises overall responsibility for the Weekday School and is advised by the Director and the Director of Christian Education (DCE.)

 The Director will be responsible for the daily operation of the school, hiring of personnel, and decision making. The Director will coordinate regularly with the DCE. The Director will be responsible to the Weekday School Division, which will:

  • set overall policy,
  • create a budget,
  • recommend property changes in consultation with the Director and the DCE.

The Weekday School Division will report to the Session.

 The Weekday School Division will be appointed by the Senior Pastor in consultation with the Director and the DCE. The division will have the following representation of at least:

  • one elder,
  • property chair,
  • one Weekday School teacher,
  • one Weekday School parent,
  • Sunday School superintendent or teacher, and
  • one at-large member.

The Director and the DCE will be ex-officio members. The terms of representation will run from September to September. The Weekday Division chair will be a member of the Session and will be appointed by the Session.
