 Wedding Music
wedding music

The marriage ordinarily takes place in a special service, which focuses upon marriage as a gift of God and as an expression of the Christian life. Music suitable for the marriage service directs attention to God and expresses the faith of the church. (The Book of Order W-4.9003/4.9005)

The Presbyterian Church clearly sets forth its position on the marriage service as a joyful, reverent, and dignified celebration of worship. The music used should express this joy, reverence, and dignity, and should possess a level of musical integrity consistent with that of other worship services of the church. Instrumental or vocal music must be appropriate for a Sunday worship service at First Presbyterian Church. Amplified or recorded music will not be used for wedding services.

 The Organist

The music director oversees the music for all services in the church. When the wedding date is confirmed, and no later than two months before the wedding, the bride and/or groom shall contact the music director to either engage him as the organist for the wedding or to consult with him on their music plans for the wedding.

If a vocal solo is desired, the music used shall be selected in consultation with the music director. Only lyrics consistent with Christian themes are appropriate during the wedding worship service. Secular music is appropriate for the wedding reception.

If our music director is engaged to play for the wedding, the soloist should provide copies of the accompaniments in time for the wedding rehearsal. The soloist is expected to be fully prepared for the rehearsal.
