The function of the Usher Committee is to count the weekly offerings each Sunday, as well as greet and usher visitors and members to seating areas before worship begins. The Usher committee is a subcommittee of the Worship Division.
Draw up a schedule of ushering assignments for all church services, including special services.
Select others to serve as ushers and notify them of times to serve.
Count and record the attendance at each service.
Take up the offering at each service and place monies received in the safe in the usher closet in the Narthex.
See that those receiving ushering assignments are well informed as to the best practices in ushering. Weekly usher lists are provided by the ministers for each service.
Be responsible for roping off pews to accommodate special groups prior to each service, or for blocking off certain areas.
See that the sanctuary is in good order after each service: straighten hymnals, pew Bibles and offering envelopes and remove used bulletins.
Anticipate overflow crowds and see that supplemental seating is made available without delay.
See that the sanctuary doors (inner) are closed at the beginning of each church service.
Be prepared in case of an emergency to see that all exits are open and to direct people to them.
