How do I navigate this site?

The First Presbyterian Church website contains a large amount of information on a growing number of pages which can be overwhelming to first-time visitors. From top-to bottom, this site consists of a number of navigational tools to help you along the way.

In the upper-left corner of the site, a collection of icons will take you quickly to some of the more useful pages of our site. The first icon (from left-to-right) will take you back to the home page of our site. The second icon (the two squares) will bring you to our news and events page. The third (the envelope) will take you directly to our contact page, and the last icon (the question-mark) will bring you to this help page.

Below the banner, you will find a search tool (powered by Google) that you can type in any number of keywords and it will search our site for the information you are looking for. This is provided as a free service by Google and is subject to their search rules.

Note: Since our site has just been reformatted, the Google search may not return an accurate list of pages (ie, it may still return the older pages). Google "recrawls" websites and rebuilds their search index approximately once a month, so it may take a few weeks for the search to return the proper pages of our new web site.

Below the gray bar, you will find our main, drop-down menu. All of our pages have been roughly classified and put under the appropriate section of the menu. Simply place your mouse over one of the headings (About Us, Session, Ministries, etc.) and a set of items should be displayed below the heading. Simply click on the appropriate heading, sub-heading, or menu item and you will be taken to the appropriate page.

On the left side of most pages (including this one) are a set of panels that contain a variety of useful information. Depending on the page, these panels may change to something more relevant to the page you are visiting. The session pages are prime examples of this as the panels on that page are filled with relevant session links and information.

If all else fails, you can use our Site Map to navigate to just about every page on our site.

What is JavaScript and why do I need it?

The First Presbyterian Church website was designed for a rich and rewarding experience and many of the features (the drop-down menus and the left panels, for example) rely on something called JavaScript. Java script is a scripting language developed for the World Wide Web to help create interactive web pages that can handle calculations, controls such as displaying certain information when certain values provided, validate forms, and more without whole lot of programming effort.

Most web browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, etc.) currently support the most common forms of JavaScript, but a few older browsers and a few inconsistencies between browsers may cause problems when viewing the site. If you encounter any errors or you visit a page that just doesn't look right, please let us know and we will make an attempt to correct the issue.

Some browsers may simply have JavaScript disabled. If you need instructions on how to enable JavaScript on your browser, they are available here.

Why is the date on the page incorrect?

The date shown in the upper-right corner of each page is based on the time and date on your current PC, and it should currently show today's date. If for some reason it is incorrect, you should first check your computer's date and time. Windows users can do so by double-clicking on the clock in your System Tray located on your Taskbar (usually located in the lower-right corner of your screen).
